Lyrics

When I started this songwriting journey,Didn't know what I would find.
But I knew I wanted no showbiz,
Had an unworn path in mind.

So when bright lights beckoned, and the big shots said,
"All aboard our train named Star".
I said "No thanks, I'll follow my bliss,
I'm in this for the art."

Chorus
'Cause I like being Just A Songwriter,
I don't fit the Showbiz scene.
I don't deal well with the road (and)
I'd die in the Nashville machine.
Yeah, I like being Just A Songwriter,
Blending music with the words,
Working on my own rainbow,
Trying to be heard.

There's a writing table with a pad of paper,
up in the loft of the barn.
Where I dip paint brushes into my soul,
Just me and my guitar.
And alone at night with some candlelight,
And maybe some libations.
Is how I prefer to roast on the,
Spit of examination.

Song Notes

After I started on this songwriting journey I had only sporadic success pitching my songs but a surprising undercurrent of support despite my desire to avoid the showbiz scene. So when I decided to release my own CD Album (No One You Know), it was enormously gratifying to see it chart around the world and generate a #1 hit in Europe - something I was told you couldn’t do if you didn’t tour. After that release, when one of the questions asked was why I didn’t tour more - I came to realize that some folks didn’t know what I was trying to do in this music business or that I was trying to participate in a non-conventional way. So this song answers those questions and lets folks know where I am coming from and where I fit in as a songwriter/producer. I heard someone say this tune is “the new songwriters’ anthem”. I’ll take it! -- Kenny Butterill
